CHRISTMAS MIDNIGHT CANDY BARK

INTRODUCTION

This candy is dangerous.
It is that dessert that the family steals before it even cools.
It’s sweet… crunchy… salty… chocolatey… everything you want in one bite.
This is the one you need to hide if you want any leftovers!

HISTORY

Chocolate bark became popular in America around Christmas time because it’s cheap, fast, easy and you can make HUGE batches in minutes.
Moms used to make this after kids went to sleep — then hide it in the freezer to save it for Christmas morning or holiday parties.

That is how “midnight candy bark” started.

FORMATION (why this candy works)

  • chocolate base = rich, creamy
  • crackers or pretzels = salty crunch
  • caramel or toffee = sticky sweet layer
  • sprinkles / nuts / candy = festive finish

The mix of salty + sweet = addicting.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 sleeve crackers (saltines) OR pretzels
  • 2 cups chocolate chips
  • toppings (optional): chopped nuts, M&Ms, sprinkles, crushed candy canes

METHOD / INSTRUCTIONS

  1. line baking pan with foil
  2. place crackers or pretzels in a single layer
  3. melt butter + brown sugar together → boil 3 minutes (becomes caramel)
  4. pour caramel over crackers
  5. bake 8 minutes at 350°F / 175°C
  6. remove → sprinkle chocolate chips on top
  7. wait for chocolate to melt → spread evenly
  8. add toppings
  9. chill in fridge 1 hour → break into pieces
